Hyderabad, Jan 9 — As part of a move to enhance living and educational conditions in government girls’ welfare hostels, the State Government has decided that All India Services women officers would visit and stay overnight in the hostels. Chief Secretary C.S. Shanthi Kumari announced this yesterday.
The state maintains 540 girls’ welfare hostels for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, and minority students. Shanthi Kumari emphasized that it is the main concern of the government to improve education facilities and to provide quality diet for the girls, which had been supplemented by the recent hike in diet charges.
Inspection Plans and Objectives
The inspections are divided into several phases, of which the first will be conducted by 29 women IAS officers. These officers will judge the management of hostels through diet quality, educational standards, infrastructure, and overall hostel administration. These inspections will help determine challenges, improvements, and the proper management of hostels.
Inspection guidelines have been standardized and issued. Inspections will continue until January 25. The findings of this first round will be analyzed in detail, and the information will be used as a basis for further steps to improve welfare hostels.
Future Steps and Collaboration
Shanthi Kumari said that inspections would be increased in the future and AIS officers at all levels would be involved to ensure sustained improvements. She reiterated the commitment of the state to address the welfare and educational needs of girls staying in these hostels.
Senior officials, including Principal Secretary of the SC Development Department N. Sridhar, participated in the teleconference, highlighting the government’s collective effort to elevate the quality of life and education for marginalized communities.
