Maganoor ZPHS Students’ Food Poisoning: Congress Seeks to Shift Burden
Hyderabad: It is getting tough for Congress leaders and officials to shift the blame game from the Telangana government after 30 students of Maganoor Zilla Parishad High School (ZPHS) were hospitalized due to food poisoning. The contradictory version in which the guilty party is being pointed finger at has mixed up the public as well as the Telangana High Court, and they are confused about what caused the poisoning.
Contradictory Claims Over Cause
The issue started with an announcement from Makthal MLA V Srihari wherein students became ill after eating some items prepared elsewhere from the school. When MLA came to visit, though, a few students called out that question since they received their meal there. In addition to this, the students questioned the MLA’s version of the statement by pointing out why he had changed the facts to the media too. Srihari, who could not say anything, promised the students better treatment and left the hospital.
A video emerged soon which proved that the students were not convinced by the version of the MLA. They stated that the gate of the school had been locked and no food from outside was allowed inside. The two teachers ensured no food from outside was consumed. They said that overcooked rice with potato and brinjal curry was served in the school, which was quite poorly prepared. They traced that meal straight to their food poisoning as severe vomiting and stomach pains were noted.
Other Contradictory Versions
Further muddying the waters, Telangana State Planning Board Vice-Chairman Chinna Reddy asserted food poisoning was due to the cooking of food in dirty utensils. The State’s Additional Advocate General presented the brief of the case in the Telangana High Court to say the students had taken Kurkure, a packet snack that was bought from local shops.
These contradictory words have raised very serious questions on transparency and accountability on how this matter is handled since more and more of the public call for clearer answers.
Growing Public Protest
This has raised public outcry over the contradictory claims by the Congress officials. Parents and public groups have complained that Congress seems to be misleading the public and the court as well. Others also argue that the food safety issues in government schools have not been dealt with in good enough terms to allow such incidents to occur.
The public today demands strong monitoring of the mid-day meal schemes so that such happenings may not occur again in the future.
Conclusion: Calls for Investigation
This incident has brought serious concerns about food safety in government-run schools to the fore. It is not clear what caused the food poisoning, and there are increasing demands for an independent investigation. Most people are asking the authorities to tighten the oversight to prevent such incidents in the future and punish those responsible.
