Hyderabad, January 13, 2025: Telangana is slowly finding its way into the tourism sector as the state government announced its new tourism policy. To mark this new development, the Telangana Tourism and Culture Department is organizing the three-day International Kite and Sweets Festival at Secunderabad Parade Ground in the city, and citizens are eager to see this international participation.
More than 50 kite hobbyists from 19 countries and 50 participants coming from different states of India marked their presence with great pomp during Sankranti. Minsters, high-profile dignitaries, and visitors were astounded by the beautiful kite art presentations and the brilliant display of helium digital balloons illuminated in the sky above Hyderabad.
Telangana Cultural Show
The State Culture and Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao lit the ceremony. Speaking to the people, he underlined that the Telangana state government was committed to developing the destination as a tourist destination all over the world. He said, “The new tourism policy looks to protect and popularise Telangana’s cultural heritage with international recognition to its heritage and natural assets.”.
He also felt that the future generations should be educated in more depth regarding Telangana’s rich heritage; modern life styles are undermining the traditional activities to be followed. “In programmes like this festival, we try to celebrate and share our cultural identity with the rest of the world, including the foreign nationals staying in Hyderabad,” he added.
Call for participation
State Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar also visited the event and extended his greetings to culture lovers on Bhogi Sankranti. He appealed to the people of Hyderabad to make use of free bus travel for women and visit the Kite Festival to join in the colourful celebrations and savor traditional sweets.
The Telangana tourism policy, as said by the Minister Prabhakar, would not only preserve cultural landmarks but also develop ancient monuments, waterfalls, and other attractions to enhance the state’s appeal as a tourism hub.
A Festival of Unity
The festival had an unusual slogan, “Telangana ku zaroor ana,” which invited one and all across the country to experience the various hues of state culture. A bevy of dignitaries was present: Patel Ramesh Reddy, Chairman Tourism Development Corporation, Cultural Sarathi Chairperson Dr. Vennela Gaddar, Directors Mangodi Harikrishna Language and Culture Department, and the likes of numerous kite players, domestic and international.
The visitors would witness kite displays, cultural performances, and different kinds of traditional sweets that provided a flavor of Sankranti.
City of Culture and Tradition
Hyderabad is fondly called “Desh ka Shaan”, or “The Pride of the Nation”. But it is still proudly a testament to all the varied hues of India. A minister went as far as to describe this place as one where all those cultures and traditions that exist are native to – hence, “the perfect springboard for taking off on one’s journey towards Telangana tourism”.
As the state strives to become a global destination for tourism, the Kite and Sweets Festival is just one of the activities that represents Telangana’s rich cultural heritage in embracing modernity.
