
Indian markets close in red for the second straight day; February 3, 2025. Markets at home witnessed weak sentiments across the globe as well. On that day, Sensex shed 319.22 points or 0.41% at 77,505.96. Nifty declined 121.1 points or 0.52% to 23,482.15.
What Were the Main Markets Highlights
Trading session remained highly volatile wherein Nifty moved in the range of 23,381.6 to 23,222. Meanwhile, Sensex in its trajectory saw the range between 77,260.37 and 76,756.09 before it closed in red.
Midcap and small-cap stocks performed very badly in comparison to the benchmarks. Nifty Midcap 50 fell by 0.65%, whereas Nifty Smallcap 100 plunged 2.13%.
Top Nifty Gainers and Losers
Gainers: Bajaj Finance led the gains with a rise of 5.32%, followed by Mahindra & Mahindra (3.14%), Wipro (2.89%), Shriram Finance (2.70%), and Bajaj Finserv (2.33%).
Losers: Larsen & Toubro (L&T) was the worst performer, declining by 4.59%. Other notable losers included Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) down 3.32%, Tata Consumer Products (3.14%), Coal India (2.93%), and Bharat Electronics (2.71%).
Sectoral Performance
Out of all the sector-specific indices, Nifty IT and Nifty Auto, which closed in with marginal gains of 0.5% and 0.1%, respectively, while heavily on the losing ends were marked by Nifty Metal, Nifty Oil & Gas, and Nifty Energy dropping between 2% and 3% percent each.
Intraday Nifty ended the day at 49,506.95 after its intraday low of 49,373.45 and hitting a low point of 48,906.05. It lost at 0.69%.

Nifty MidCap 50 Gainers: The major gainers include Voltas, UPL, and PI Industries. The major losers were from Hindustan Petroleum Corporation and Container Corporation of India.
Nifty SmallCap 100 Gainers: The major gainers were CEAT, Happiest Minds Technologies, and Ujjivan Small Finance Bank.
Losers: HUDCO, RITES, and Praj Industries declined marginally.
BSE and NSE Top Gainers
BSE Gainers: Ajanta Pharmaceuticals rose by 9.91%. Symphony took the second position with a 7.97% gain while Voltas moved up by 5.73%.
BSE Losers: Siemens fell by 9.03%, closely followed by RITES and HUDCO at 8.78% and 8.75% respectively.
NSE Gainers: Westlife Development and Voltas were among the top gainers, and Bajaj Finance.
NSE Losers: Elecon Engineering plunged sharply by 9.28%, while Siemens and Samvardhana Motherson International followed closely behind.
Market Outlook
With lingering global trade tension and economic jitters, market nerves remain at a taut edge. Just ahead of Reserve Bank of India announcing its monetary policy on 7 February, 2025, investors have turned their eyes towards the hints it will make on interest rate and measures toward market stabilization through sustained volatility.
