Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy stated on Thursday that the big airport at Warangal was conceptualised as an infrastructure project for turning Warangal into a mega city. He inspected the plans to acquire lands in the review meeting of ICCC on Thursday night and proposed suggestions on regional development through the airport project.
The CM pointed out how airports globally work as catalysts for hastening economic development. He explained that South Korea is a country that offers an opportunity window wherein airports prove to be an important tool in foreign investment attraction. He then proposed that the Warangal airport be an opportunity avenue wherein opportunities are brought closer to the global markets for the region. He further challenged the officials to draw lessons from the Kochi airport model characterized by world-class facilities for the Warangal project.
Connect the city with other districts: The connectivity has to be smooth and friction-free, Chief Minister added. “The Outer Ring Road from Warangal, radial roads-they have to have friction-free connectivity into the airport”. Chief Minister said that the road network they proposed would ensure ease of access for the people living in the four districts-Warangal, Khammam, Karimnagar, and Nalgonda.
Drawing an apparent parallel from Hyderabad, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said the development of Warangal would also reflect on the success capital Hyderabad had seen in its textile, IT, and pharma sectors. “The airport will become a facilitator of such industries. Thereby, investments would grow and there will be an emergent business-friendly atmosphere, too,” he added.
The CM also added that the airport will enhance tourism. Medaram Jatara, Laknavaram Lake, and the UNESCO World Heritage site Ramappa Temple are some attractions surrounding the airport. More tourists would visit the place, which will develop the tourism industry in the area.
All stake holders attended the review meeting. They include State Ministers Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Konda Surekha, Chief Minister’s Advisor Vem Narender Reddy, MLA of Nagarjuna Sagar K Jayveer Reddy, Government Advisor (Infrastructure) Srinivasa Raju, Principal Secretary Shanthi Kumari, Special Chief Secretary R&B Vikas Raj, Warangal Collector Satya Sarada, and Warangal RDO Satya Pal Reddy
